PROCESS OF CREATION – LAYERS IN DIALOGUE
Michaela Steinacher’s artistic approach unfolds within the tension between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary technology. Each work begins with expressive charcoal sketches and monochrome underpaintings, which are then layered with subtly nuanced applications of color. These layers are more than composition – they are transformation: every new stratum shifts the meaning of what lies beneath, generating new tensions and relationships.
A distinctive feature of Steinacher’s work is the use of AI-generated dystopian landscapes as the foundational ground. These digital environments act as both frictional surfaces and acoustic chambers for the analog layers above. The result is a painterly dialogue between the emotional handwriting of the human hand and the calculated precision of machine aesthetics.
ART IN DIALOGUE WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
On another level, selected image components are briefly animated – using artificial intelligence as a deliberate extension of the artistic language. There's always a subtle detail hidden: a symbol of hope, because confidence is vital for our survival."
A UNIQUE RITUAL OF MATERIALITY
At the core of Steinacher’s work is “Entropia” – a handcrafted, rust-based symbol, created through a complex, multi-layered process and firmly integrated into the artwork. This tactile element serves as a material anchor within the visual stratification. Entropia breaks through the surface and invites perception not only through sight, but through a tactile awareness of seeing.
Steinacher’s works are not simply images – they are experiential systems. Through the fusion of analog materiality, digital movement, and haptic depth, immersive visual spaces emerge in which transformation is not only thematized but made tangible. The visible trace of the human hand remains essential – especially in dialogue with technology.
